My Comfort

This would be my comfort; I would even exult in pain unsparing, for I have not denied the words of the Holy One.

My Comfort
Knowing the source of pain is helpful.  If you have a backache, it’s important to know if it’s a sore muscle or something more serious, like a slipped disc.  When one suffers from depression it’s helpful to know the root cause so as to be able to address it.  The same is true in spiritual matters.  When we struggle in our faith we need to know why.  Is it coming from the devil, the world, our own sinful thoughts and deeds, or a combination of the three?  But just as important as it is to know the source of our pain, it is even more important to know the true source of our comfort.  If we seek comfort in the wrong places, there can only be temporary relief at best.  Yet, if like Job, we understand our comfort comes from only one place then it is lasting.  Of course, Job speaks of the Holy One, God our Father and Comforter.  It is only in His great gift of His Son, Jesus Christ, that we find true comfort.  To know Christ has paid the wages of our sins so we now have a relationship with our Father is the most comforting news anyone can ever receive.  It is comfort worth sharing!

“Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our affliction, so that we may be able to comfort those who are in any affliction, with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God.”
(2 Corinthians 1:3-4)
